Naxos is an island with a rich history since ancient times and passes from the Byzantine period and the Middle Ages and reaches the 18th and 19th century. The island is full of towers, built with stone Naxos as the tower Belonias Galanado the Barozzi tower in Filoti and many others.

Portara, Country

One of the most famous monuments in Naxos is the Portara, a huge gate that has survived until today from the ancient temple of Apollo, which was built in the 6th century BC Located in the north of the harbor and is evident from the boats as they approach the island of Naxos.




Naxos Castle

The castle of Naxos was built during the Venetian rule (from 1204 to 1537). It is an impressive monument on a hill, which essentially is the natural acropolis of Hora. The walls and still maintained today and form a pentagon with three main gates leading inside the castle. Near the northwest gate is the Glezos tower extends to the northern and western part of the castle. The tower has four floors.

Archaeological Museum,

The Archaeological Museum of Naxos is located in Chora and is housed in a 17th century building of Venetian architecture and houses works and objects from the Late Neolithic Age to the early Christian times.

Tower Himara, southeast Naxos

The Tower Himara is similar to all the towers that can be found on the Aegean islands. What makes it unique is its impressive height of nearly 15 meters. The exterior is kept in very good condition with respect to the inside and is circular and made of local marble 1.1 meters thick. It is considered that in some way connected with the protection of marble production in Naxos.
  
'Iria - Temple of Dionysus and the church of St. George, Meadow

The 'Iria is an area near Livadi village and a sacred place of the Aegean from the 14th century BC The 'Iria was dedicated to the god Dionysus and the temple there has been partially restored. Later in the same area church was dedicated to Saint George and today there are visible remnants of all temples.
Geological Museum, Apiranthos

The Geological Museum of Naxos is located in Apiranthos located on the top floor of the primary school in the area. Its exhibits include a rich collection of rare stones, salt and exposed to historical series, but also according to the geological significance. The exhibits come from all over Greece, but also from around the world.

Kouros statues in Flerio and Apollonas

Near these two villages are unfinished statues of male figures, known Kouros. The statues date from the 6th and 7th century BC
